Years ago a lovely lady called Joan Currie and I set about teaching some classes at the Husqvarna Studio in Nottingham aimed at those who wanted to use the computer as a design tool for their textile work. The interest and uptake was great and we covered a lot of ground. But for many reasons, most of them logistical, we did not continue with the classes, and now I find myself being asked repeatedly about the hows, whys and wherefores of using the computer to design with. I will quickly point out that I do not at this point intend to restart the classes, but I have written a few words on the subject that might illuminate some dark corners for you. The bare bones of the article formed a creative day at our monthly Nolitex meeting where some of the group members are familiar with part of the process: we are all textile artists who are experienced enough to have developed ways of working that suit us, but are not afraid of exploring new ideas. For greater depth of understanding of the software and what it can do for you, visit the Computer Textile Design Group (CTDG)
It is not a document full of pictures, it is more a discussion that might act as a starting point for further investigation, and I am more than happy to respond to questions about it. So if you are interested, simply click on the link below and you should get a pdf file to read.

Some wonderful and inspiring ideas here. I’m just coming to terms with Photoshop and computer aided design. I look forward to joining Nolitex and leaning more.
